Knowing Is Not Enough

Most people think the hard part is figuring out what to do — but the real gap is between knowing what to do and actually doing it.

I’m going to tell you some things you already know. You should stop eating junk food; you should take care of yourself physically; find someone to talk to; don’t run with scissors. But you, like me, know those things already. Does anyone argue that exercise is good for you? (Yes, I know, some fanatics will argue anything.)

So you already know this stuff. But like Tony Robbins put it: “Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Wishing is not enough; we must do.” And that gap — that “I know” compared to “I am doing” — is where we find regret. And neither I nor anyone else can cross that gap for you.
